English as a Second Language (ESL)
This program is designed for students whose primary language is not English. ESL is open to all new Canadian and international students. Through a multi-level English Language Learning program, students will develop the necessary English skills to transition into the regular curriculum as soon as possible.Â
ESL services include:
program coordination to assist in assessment and possible placement
translators for parent/guardian contact throughout the year
liaison with community agencies to assist students and families, specifically refugee students, in cross-cultural bridging and settling into a new life style
arrangement of programming for international students who are living in Canada without family
assistance with the possible literacy needs of those students who do not speak English in the home
communication of students' language learning in relation to Alberta Education ESL benchmarks
