English as a Second Language (ESL)

This program is designed for students whose primary language is not English. ESL is open to all new Canadian and international students. Through a multi-level English Language Learning program, students will develop the necessary English skills to transition into the regular curriculum as soon as possible. 

ESL services include:

• program coordination to assist in assessment and possible placement

• translators for parent/guardian contact throughout the year

• liaison with community agencies to assist students and families, specifically refugee students, in cross-cultural bridging and settling into a new life style

• arrangement of programming for international students who are living in Canada without family

• assistance with the possible literacy needs of those students who do not speak English in the home

• communication of students' language learning in relation to Alberta Education ESL benchmarks
