Our Family Centre

Success Coach

Sarah Hocho

I am a Success Coach from The Family Centre and I started at Killarney Junior High in November 2021. My role as a Success Coach is to support students to develop positive strategies to help them become successful both in the classroom and their personal lives. I work alongside students to identify and overcome barriers to their learning.

I work one-on-one with students to explore healthy coping skills, their personal strengths, and to offer social-emotional support. Some areas of support include: mental health (e.g. anxiety and stress), family and peer relationships, cultural supports, transitions, and social emotional learning. When working with students I can meet with them short term when needed or formally to work towards goals. I support students to develop goals that are meaningful to them to create positive changes in their lives.

Another part of my role is to run groups to build capacities in the school and empower students’ natural strengths. Groups are created to give students opportunities to build friendships, explore new activities, mindfulness strategies, mentoring skills, boundaries, social skills, and develop emotional regulation.
