The Teaching & Learning Department is committed to strengthening classroom instruction by investing in K–12 Instructional Coaches. Each month, we provide targeted professional development designed to equip coaches with the tools and strategies they need to make a lasting impact on teaching and learning.
Every July, we host an Instructional Coach Academy, preparing coaches for the year ahead with sessions on leveled content, High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM), Impact Cycle coaching, and student engagement strategies.
Instructional Coaches play a vital role on every campus—they serve as a direct link to high-quality instruction and student achievement. Our Teaching & Learning Facilitators deliver ongoing training focused on best practices, effective coaching techniques, and the implementation of HQIM. These sessions are tailored to support coaches in core content areas—Math, Reading Language Arts (RLA), Science, and Social Studies—while also refining the art of coaching teachers.

Our department is proud to partner directly with educators to strengthen classroom instruction throughout the school year. We deliver high-quality professional development designed to empower teachers with the knowledge, strategies, and resources they need to help students thrive.
At the beginning of each school year, we lead EPISD Connect, preparing teachers for the first nine weeks with curriculum guidance and instructional strategies to ensure a strong start. At the end of the school year, we sponsor a Teacher Institute, where educators choose sessions tailored to their content area, grade level, and specific needs—providing personalized learning opportunities that support growth and innovation.
We also collaborate with trusted vendors to provide in-person professional development and coaching sessions, ensuring teachers receive expert guidance and support. In addition, our department facilitators lead Curriculum Conversations every nine weeks—interactive, face-to-face sessions that prepare teachers for the upcoming instructional cycle. These conversations focus on unpacking curriculum content, exploring effective instructional strategies, and leveraging resources and activities aligned to district goals.

The Teaching & Learning Department developed a unique approach to meet the specific instructional needs of our campuses. Using data-driven insights, we created Campus Implementation Teams—collaborative groups composed of an administrator, an instructional coach, and classroom teachers. These teams serve as catalysts for change, taking their learning back to the campus to share with colleagues and implement effective instructional strategies.
To ensure success, our department provides specialized professional development tailored to the needs of these campuses. This extra layer of support is delivered monthly, focusing on strategies that strengthen teaching practices and improve student outcomes. By investing in these teams, we empower educators to lead instructional transformation from within.
