The Teaching & Learning Department is committed to strengthening classroom instruction by investing in highly skilled Reading and Mathematics Interventionists across EPISD. Each month, we provide targeted professional development designed to equip interventionists with the tools, strategies, and instructional practices needed to accelerate student learning and close achievement gaps.
During the month of July, EPISD hosts an Interventionist Institute that prepares educators for the year ahead, featuring sessions on data-driven instruction, High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM), small-group intervention frameworks, and Research Based Instructional Strategies tailored to support struggling learners. This annual training builds a strong foundation that is reinforced throughout the school year with ongoing professional learning.
Reading and Math Interventionists play a critical role on every campus—they provide direct instructional support to students, collaborate with teachers, and ensure that targeted intervention aligns with grade-level TEKS. Our Teaching & Learning Intervention Coordinators deliver monthly professional development focused on best practices for small-group instruction, progress monitoring, formative assessment, and the implementation of HQIM resources to drive student success.

The Teaching & Learning Department is committed to strengthening classroom instruction by equipping campus administrators with the knowledge and tools needed to effectively support Reading and Mathematics intervention on their campuses. This summer, principals received targeted professional development focused specifically on Response to Intervention (RTI). This training built capacity to identify student needs, understand intervention tiers, monitor progress, and create systems that promote accelerated learning.
During the month of July, EPISD hosted Leadershift for administrators, where the RTI-focused sessions emphasized analyzing student data, understanding the components of effective intervention, and ensuring fidelity to small-group support structures. This annual summer training establishes a shared understanding of expectations and best practices that administrators take into the school year.
Campus administrators play a vital role in closing learning gaps—they set the vision for intervention, ensure teachers and interventionists have access to the resources they need, and monitor progress toward student goals. In addition to the summer RTI training, monthly REAL meetings further reinforce this work by providing principals with focused guidance on RTI implementation, data analysis, and House Bill 1416 requirements. These sessions ensure leaders receive ongoing clarity, alignment, and support in driving effective intervention practices across their campuses.
