This year, the Teaching & Learning Department launched a tiered support system to provide personalized assistance for instructional coaches. Using STAAR data by level and content, we identified campuses needing additional support and delivered both individual coaching sessions and small-group collaboration opportunities.
Our facilitators regularly visit coaches, sharing expertise in content and instructional strategies to strengthen their work with teachers. Support is documented in the EPISD Acadesk, giving district leadership clear visibility into when and how coaches receive assistance.
By focusing on data-driven, tailored support, Teaching & Learning is leading the way in empowering coaches to elevate instruction and improve student outcomes.
The Teaching & Learning Department developed and distributed a K–12 Instructional Coach Handbook to serve as an essential guide for coaches across all campuses. This resource is designed to strengthen their role in supporting teachers and driving instructional excellence.
The handbook provides clear guidance on key areas, including:
Effective Coaching Strategies
Leading Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
Facilitating Professional Development
Roles and Responsibilities of Instructional Coaches
By equipping coaches with this comprehensive reference, we ensure they have the tools and knowledge to lead impactful learning experiences and foster teacher growth.
The Teaching & Learning Department developed a PLC Handbook to empower campus administrators and instructional coaches in leading effective Professional Learning Communities. This resource provides a clear understanding of the purpose and essential actions of a PLC, along with practical tools to ensure success.
The handbook includes:
Guidelines for PLC Leaders – outlining responsibilities and best practices
Essential Actions & Checklists – to keep teams focused and organized
Strategies for High Levels of Learning – emphasizing assessment and data-driven instruction
By offering this comprehensive reference, we help campuses build strong PLCs that foster collaboration, improve instructional practices, and drive student achievement.
The Teaching & Learning Reading Language Arts (RLA) facilitators designed a comprehensive year-long writing plan to support campuses in improving student mastery of the writing process and increasing achievement in this critical area.
This plan provides K–12 guidelines that include:
Writing Portfolios and Daily Writing Routines
Guidance on Student Writing Artifacts
Information on Extended Constructed Responses (ECRs) and Short Constructed Responses (SCRs)
Grade-Level Writing Rubrics
Cross-Content Writing Connections
To ensure successful implementation, RLA facilitators deliver targeted training to instructional coaches during monthly coach meetings, focusing on strategies to strengthen writing instruction across all grade levels.
