Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Stingray stings are a common issue for all kinds of beachgoers, particularly in Southern California. The goal of our project is to design a product to prevent stingray stings.
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
●Brainstorming any possible method to deterrent or prevent stingray sting. (all teammates)
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments
●Average surfer boots go for about 30$ and it looks nice, close to skin and tight.
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments
●To make success criteria quantitative! (withstands X amount of force) don't focus on making it a "product"
● behave like a fabric, will we have something behind the fabric?
●materials used in medical fields to "simulate tissue". Gelatinous materials to see how far it goes into flesh.
● pendulums are usually in momentum, we'll need to somehow convert/calibrate it to force.
● might be easier to build your own pendulum, rather than buy one
● shark’s deterrents don't work.
● need access to stingrays, as live testing is very necessary.
● If the electric field is (between your legs) how will that ward off the rays outside your stride length
Risks and Areas of Concern
●If it’s too expensive or doesn’t look good, it won’t be marketable
●If they weight too much or are restrictive, surfers won’t wear them
●Harming the stingrays
●If the product is not comfortable for users, people are not going to buy it.
●Applicable to both adults and children
Risk reduction and milestone
Fall Quarter Goals:
●Researching current methods of avoiding stingray stings
●Brainstorming multiple methods of stingray deterrence
●Designing a testbed
●Picking a design to study further
Long Term Risk Reduction
●Settle on a design and perform puncture tests
●Regularly redesigning and performing puncture tests to improve design
●Perform design test with stingrays
Budget (list amount spent and amount remaining)
amount spent $0
amount remaining $1000
