Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Design Solutions Under Consideration
Water Sock:
● Tight weave Kevlar
● Rubber/Latex
Deterrent:
● Electromagnetic fields
● Flashing lights
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Final report presentation
individual analysis for design and material
● flash light
● materials
● electromagnetic field
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
● Keep in touch with sponsor (entire team)
● Keep trying to catch Stingray (entire team)
● Testing the materials (Garrett and Miles)
● Finding 10~15 materials and water sock design ideas (entire team)
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
This is very linear, but I think it should be more iterative. Most likely, we’ll order materials once, test them, find that most of them don’t work, try to make some prototype, they will fail, and then repeat this cycle a bunch of times. I think you’re most likely to succeed if you keep this cycle as short as possible. I would aim to repeat this cycle 4 times (brownie points if you can beat 4). In week 9, you could choose one prototype you feel is most promising, and make it a bit more “finalized”, so your presentation looks good.
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
● Do not read directly from slides
● Use short bullets not long sentences in presentation
● Is UHMW really a candidate?
● Is material cost really an issue?
● How did you convert impact to force? Details?
● What manufacturing errors are you worried about?
● Need to look at repellent concepts quickly to assess viability
● Need to do and show more analysis
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
● The demonstration of the pendulum test, and why it was used.
● Maybe put some research paper that we read.
Risks and Areas of Concern
●Unable to conduct live testing
●Manufacturing errors Stingrays are unstoppable
