Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Accomplishments from Previous Week
● Tested alternative flexible materials to replace the hot glue compared to hot glue (Garrett/Miles)
● Continued designing and producing other prototypes (Jordan/Ho)
● Neoprene sock with inner rubber layer in critical areas (Ho)
● Completed 3D model for test samples for Chris Cassidy (Miles)
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
● Create 2 prototypes from new design concepts (Jordan/Ho)
● Testing flexible 3D printed soles once available (All)
● Trying 2 more hot glue replacements for insoles, otherwise optimize hot glue design (Garrett/Miles)
● Field test neoprene/rubber prototype (Jordan)
● Cost estimation (Jordan)
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
● Try to protect the foot as much as possible, make sure to not manufacture any weaknesses
● Hardness testing requires a big machine, not really feasible
● Final step will be testing the finished water sock on the pendulum on different areas
● Pendulum
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
● The materials aren’t hard to come by so manufacturing (on a big scale) could be done in one place
● There could be weak point between the insole and the other parts of the shoe depending on fabrication methods
● In the “existing solutions” part of the report, we should use other puncture resistant materials/products, even if they’re not necessarily footwear or meant to be used in the ocean.
● Try to measure our product using conventional standards, ie. safety standards
Risks and Areas of Concern
● Reducing drag
● Protecting mainly the foot area without compromising wearability
● Comfortability, durability, and longevity of the boot
● Professionalism of final prototype
Budget (list amount spent and amount remaining)
● Plan to buy more zippers, rubber, and neoprene
● Previous amount spent: $305.77
● New amount spent: $305.77
● Total remaining budget: $694.23
