Types of Graphs

Educators will explore ways to use data in an engineering experience. They will engineer an activity to allow students to determine criteria and constraints, collect data, design, and test to develop a claim that is supported by data.
Objective(s):
- Explore ways to represent data visually.
- Brainstorm ways to support students in representing data visually in their bite-size engineering experience.
Directions:
Middle school students should be able to make decisions about the types of graphs based on whether data is categorical (bar graphs) or continuous (line graphs).
In order to determine which type of graph to use with which type of data, look at this page and read a little more about specific graphs.
How might you help students understand the appropriate graph for the data they have?
