I. Pulleys are another very common simple machine that allows less effort to be used to lift (or move) something that requires a lot of effort. There are LOTS of pulleys in your car that allow the motor to accomplish a whole lot of things.
You see pictures of two pulleys. A single pulley system and a double pulley system. Attached to each system is a weight (MR). Also, you see a scale (much like used in fishing) that, when pulled, lifts the weight off the table and serves as ME.
Today you will build these two pulley systems. (This can be a frustrating process, so breath easy.)
When Mr. Hollis gives you your scale he will tell you which mass you should use for MR.
Create a neat labeled data table, input your data, and calculate MAM and MAL for each pulley. If your MA values are not close, STOP!!! See Mr. Hollis.
Check each pulley system with Mr. Hollis before you move on to the next one. Draw a neat labeled picture of each pulley, one on the front and one on the back. NEAT AND TIDY! If needed, use a straight edge and something round to draw your circles (a large weight would work well).
Turn your pulley data table and two drawings in AFTER you have shown them to Mr. Hollis.
