I. The ground-breaking research done by Isaac Newton using a pendulum first identified "g," the acceleration due to gravity. Newton, like Galileo, did not have great timing devices, so he had to 'cheat' time. Rather than simply measuring a falling object, he instead used a pendulum, with the understanding that a pendulum 'falls' along a circular path AND it's period (back and forth swing) remains constant over and over and over again.
Read the lab document with your group. Identify measurements we will take. Those are your "how" statement that goes with your "what" statement in the purpose.
Build your data table. Use the sample data on the screen to make sure your formulas work properly. Color code your data, with each set of lengths getting their own unique (and easy to see) color.
III. Set up and conduct Newton's pendulum experiment.
