9th Grade Mentors
9th Grade Mentors
The 9th grade mentor program is intended to help new 7th graders make a successful transition into the middle school community. To help accomplish this, the mentors traditionally engage in various annual activities with the 7th graders. However, due to the Covid situation, many of the activities have been placed on hold until further notice. We are hoping that we will return to a more "normal" school situation in August 2021.
Mentors lead and coordinate activities and creative, interactive activities for the 7th grade groups.
This event is coordinated by the Olari/Matinkylä Youth Center staff, but CT's (classroom teachers) and mentors accompany students, lead workshops, and assist with the event during the day.
Mentors plan and participate in the 7th grade disco.
This event is to help 6th graders get a glimpse into middle school life. This is the first time they meet the new mentors, who help them understand more about things, like MYP criteria/assessment, staying organized, handling stress, and usually involves some interactive games and activities.
