Are you an aspiring author? Are you looking to develop your writing skills? Look no further! In this elective, we will be exploring different genres of writing (including but not limited to short stories, poetry, fairy tales, and memoirs). We will discover the elements of good storytelling and writing. We will delve into the differences in poetry and poetic forms. You will create and master your own words and worlds. The only limitation is your own imagination.
Goal: The goal of this elective is for you to write original pieces while also learning skills that will help you in all academic subjects. These skills include but are not limited to the development and growth of writing strategies, grammar and sentence structure variation, and informal and formal writing styles.
Means of Assessment: A portfolio of original work as well as class participation and preparedness.
Learn to draw like da Vinci!
Goals include practicing drawing people, animals, 3D objects, perspective drawings and still life. Use traditional and creative methods to learn drawing. Techniques used are e.g. ink, markers, pencil and drawing tablet.
Means of assessment: Lesson attendance and submission of required tasks.
Want to try out German for one year instead of two? Or would you like to improve the German skills that you already have? If so, consider this elective. If all students who sign up are beginners, this course will teach "tourist German," concentrating on the short dialogue needed when travelling and/or staying a short time in a German-speaking country. If the group has varying levels of German, teaching will be differentiated according to those skills.
Goal: By the end of this short elective, students will learn the basics of German language or improve the skills they already have.
Means of assessment: written and verbal communication skills, as well as class participation
There are many applications out there that let you create websites but if you want to truly harness the power of the internet you need to learn it’s language. In this Elective we will set aside the web development applications and start with a blank page, learning how to create a website from scratch. We will learn to write HTML, CSS and Javascript code to create simple web pages. The skills you learn from this elective will help you dive deeper into those web design applications allowing you to understand them and use them on a more advanced level.
Goals:
•Learn the three coding languages of the web--HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
•Make simple web pages from scratch.
•Learning the creative process and some theory of what makes an inviting webpage.
