PRINCIPAL REPORT
As you all know, last week (Week 7) we celebrated Book Week. In addition to our Parade and the Book Swap, which was a huge success, students spent some time on Friday roaming the school and exploring the different texts that other grades had been studying. Below are some photos of students exploring displays, listening to readings of shortlisted books, as well as a photo of our Book Week Dress Up Winners!
There will be some information regarding our newsletter and its format moving forward in the Week 10 newsletter so stay tuned!
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to get in touch or come and see us in the office.

FOUNDATION
It has been a busy fortnight filled with incursions, Book Week activities and of course our Literacy, Numeracy and Inquiry. Here's some information about what we have been up to:
Illustrator Visit
Jess Racklyeft read through her wonderful story 'Big Cat', she showed us how she created her cats and we got a chance to draw our own! They all looked fantastic.
Bushland Biodiversity Incursion
As part of our Inquiry and Literacy units, we were lucky enough to have Freida visit, from Black Snake Productions. She brought along some amazing creatures that are found in the Australian bush. We learnt so many interesting facts, we even got to touch some of them!
Book Week
For Book Week, the Foundation students read Bev and Kev, a story about friendship. We did activities based around the themes and the characters of the book and we all worked together to build a Bev and Kev display in the classroom.
GRADE 1/2
Literacy:
Students engaged in a variety of literacy activities around their class 'book week' text. They wrote blurbs, summarised, identified interesting words, made text connections, sequencing and visualising.
Numeracy:
Students have continued to investigate different ways to solve multiplication problems and relating their investigations to the inverse operation of division. They had fun learning about capacity and identify containers that hold more or less than another.
Special Events:
Illustrator visit:
1/2 students enjoyed a visit from illustrator Jess Rackyleft. Jess talked about some of her books and showed the students how to create a colour wheel using Australian animals.
Book Week:
For Book Week, students explored a text in depth and created some wonderful examples of their learning for our room displays. The costume parade was enjoyed by all later in the afternoon.
Swimming:
Swimming starts next week (Monday 4th Sept.). Some suggestions and tips:
Make sure everything is clearly named.
Please choose a strong swimming bag, big enough to hold everything easily.
Pack a plastic bag for wet gear.
Pack thongs to wear to the pool and back (students must wear school shoes to school).
Tie up long hair.
Due to Child Safe regulations, parents are not allowed in the change rooms.
GRADE 3/4
The senior students at Wattle View had an incredible time celebrating Book Week! We were lucky enough to have a visit from Author/Illustrator Shar Rill Ng. The students were taken through an illustrator workshop and had a wonderful time! We also celebrated with our Book Week Dress Up day on Friday 27th August. We loved hearing about the kids costumes, favourite books and characters and see their creativity come to life!

VISUAL ARTS
It's been a very busy time in the art room completing puppets and other art pieces. There will be a new display in the 1/2 building showing the process of the grades 3-6 puppets and the completed grades F-2 puppets. Please pop in at the end of next week to have a look, the students were very proud of their creations and I'm sure they would love to show and talk about what they have been doing.
During lunchtimes on a Tuesday some students had the opportunity to come into the art room and be apart of our Art Club. We designed images and painted these on a tote bag. It was great to see the variety of designs and the eagerness of the students to come in. Below are some photos of the complete totes!
Shhh something special for Sunday!
