FOUNDATION NEWS
In Literacy, students have been learning to visualise by listening to information and picturing it in our heads. Students listened to the sound of a jingle bell and drew/wrote about what they were picturing in their heads. Students also listened to a description of a green giant and drew awesome pictures about what their giants looked like. Each giant was different and it was fun to see how different students pictured it in their heads. Upon the arrival of our classroom elves, students have designed their elf journal and have been recording the elve's movement each morning during our writing sessions. This will continue until the end of the term.
In Maths, we have been consolidating our knowledge of number through hands on addition and subtraction games, counting on and back and using concrete materials to explain our thinking. Students have also been introduced to skip counting by 2s, 10s and 5s. We have been consolidating this information through hands on activities and explaining our thinking to peers.
For Inquiry, we have finished designing and building our bridges. Next Monday we will finally be testing them to discover if our designs were effective! Student have been super keen to test their bridges, hopefully all will pass the ultimate test when the shot-put ball rolls across their bridge. Stay tuned.
Friendly Reminders:
Reports go live on the 12th of December.
Please read with your child each night and complete the reading log located in the green bag
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to get in contact with either of us.
Kind Regards,

GRADE 1/2 NEWS
What a night we all had on Tuesday at the 1/2 dinner! The children were dressed to impress and super excited to have a night out with their friends. Alongside the wide selection of foods, all students participated in a quiz, lolly treasure hunt and concluded the evening with some energetic dancing. The bottled jar of pears they came home with is what they made on our recent excursion to Rayner's Orchard. A special thank you to our wonderful parent helpers on the night.
LITERACY
In Literacy, we have had a focus on procedural writing, antonyms and Tricky Words. We have continued our reading focus of inferring, using both visual and written texts.
MATHS
In Maths, the students have been revising reading and creating fractions. In addition to this, we have had a focus on data collection and presentation. All students have created a picture graph, bar graph and dot plot graph based on the data they collected.
INQUIRY
Our seedlings that we planted in Inquiry last fortnight have grown so much! The students are very good at reminding us they need watering everyday. They have now finished developing their information card which will be coming home shortly in their Portfolio.

GRADE 5/6 NEWS
School Captains
Our new School Captains!
As this year is coming to an end, new school captains are chosen, and exactly that has happened this week. We think that they will do an awesome job in this new role and we hope that it brings out the best in them. We hope that they will continue to change this school for the better, and carry Wattleview’s Olympic torch with a steady hand.
Inquiry
In the Inquiry this fortnight we continued to learn about Civics and Citizenship. Some topics that we learnt about were: the benefits of citizenship, the process of passing a law, why citizenship is important in society and many more interesting things. A highlight this fortnight was passing a law that we came up with as a group. We split into the House Of Representatives, the Senate, and the Governor General. Only a few of the numerous laws were passed. In summary, this fortnight, Inquiry was a blast!
Maths
In maths this fortnight we’ve done a variety of different maths concepts.
One of the activities was to find out what palindromes are and how to work them out.The other tasks were to see what weather is and how weather stations work out how much water there is over a long period of time.
Homework
Homework has continued as normal for the past two weeks, most people doing their homework. There has been an added incentive for children to do their homework to their best ability, when teachers added a prize in Dojo Points to anyone who tries 100%. This week teachers also added a 100 Dojo point prize to the student who writes the best short story using all of their spelling words.
As part of Graduation Week, there will be no requirements to complete homework in Week 11.
Literacy
This week in literacy it has been a little bit different, the grade 5’s and 6’s have been splitting up, the grade 5’s have been working on their digital portfolios , which they have to focus hard on because parents get to look at their work and their progress throughout the year. The year 6s have been working on graduation since it is coming up very soon. They have been working on their speeches for each other that they have to present on the graduation night.
AV Team
This week in digital technologies we have been continuing our presentation about some topics like cryptocurrency and social media. After choosing a topic we had to do lots of research about such as who made it and when it was made. After 2 weeks of working on our presentation we will have finally presented in front of the class. We learnt something new about technology and it might even come in handy for the future, for example, if we ever want to code a game or make computers.
House Captains
This week on Friday the 9th of December we all are dressing up in our house colours for house day! On this day, there will be events that are held in the gym and outside on the oval and basketball courts. The canteen will also be open and be selling treats throughout the day.
The winning house will have the pleasure of taking home a Zooper Dooper as their prize.
Specialist Captains
Auslan
Due to Miss Webb being sick there have been no Auslan sessions this week.
Performing Arts
The 5/6s have been playing around with some boom whackers and ukuleles and learning some simple chords on the ukuleles.
Just a reminder: Photos from the production are still for sale and you can order them from the office.
School Captains 2023
Going into grade 6 is your final opportunity to express your mark on the school before leaving. Doing as much as possible is like an instinct. Being able to work with other people that feel the same way makes it so much easier.
Wattleview allows you to work hard in order to open your life to many different career paths. The school allows you to look into certain topics. 2023 is going to be a good year, and we will make sure of it. Teamwork is key, four school captains will be assisting each other next year. Many students applied for leadership positions, meaning that there is a very confident set of grade 6s next year, all the better. This year’s leadership team has really inspired and encouraged many people to run for the leadership team for next year. Many people have always had a passion for school captaincy as they have always looked up to the current and past teams.
House Captains 2023
As House Captains we are very sporty and enjoy playing sports inside and outside of school. We have the responsibility of the house captain role because all of us have lots of experience with sport. We will do as well as or even better than the house captains of 2022 and we will also take all responsibility in our role during 2023. We will give all the effort we can possibly give and respect all of the teachers and students. We can’t wait to work with the new 2023 leaders. We can all represent Wattleview and teach kids to be respectful to one another.
