PRINCIPAL REPORT
What a jam-packed term it has been here at Wattle View Primary School. We've had Chocolate Box, Cookie Dough and Father's Day Stall fundraising, as well as a Bunnings BBQ from our Parents & Friends Committee. Students have participated in a number of incursions linked to Inquiry, as well as a variety of other events including Hoop Time, State School Spectacular, 100 Days of Foundation, Footy Day, Book Week, Summer Sports and Pizza & Paper Planes, to name a few. We look forward to another exciting and busy term in Term 4.
It is with much sadness for Wattle View, but great excitement for him, that we say farewell to Stuart Hanmer. Stuart has secured a teaching position in a specialist school setting beginning Term 4. Stuart has been at Wattle View for over 13 years, teaching most year levels and in varying specialist rolls. On behalf of the WV Community, we wish Stuart all the very best in his new endeavours.
On Tuesday we conducted one of our Emergency Management Drills, Shelter in Place. Our students, staff and visitors moved swiftly and calmly to our central meeting point. Emergency Drills are conducted every term as per Department requirements. Well done to all!
Tired of hunting through school bags to find that notice? Can't remember whether you have paid for an event already? Well Compass Pay is coming to the rescue! Stay tuned because Wattle View Primary School will be using Compass Pay as we move into Term 4. A parent guide will be sent out early in the term, informing you of everything you will need to know to use this facility.
Finally, it was mentioned in last fortnight's newsletter that the format of our school newsletter will be changing. No longer will you have to access a Google Site. Our new newsletter, starting in Term 4 will be a simple PDF document uploaded to a Compass post each fortnight. In each issue, a particular area of the school will be "in the spotlight" and we will be able to continue communicating with community via this new format. With this change and in addition to regular Compass posts and now the Wattle View Facebook page, we hope that you are able to feel fully informed of what is happening at Wattle View.
Have a safe and restful holiday break. Hopefully this beautiful weather decides to stick around.
As always, if you have any questions or queries, please feel free to get in touch.
Kind Regards,
Andrew Reardon and Tracy Wright
FOUNDATION
It has been a chock-a-block fortnight in the Foundation rooms. Students have been taking part in the Swimming Program, it has been so wonderful to see them develop their confidence and their skills in the pool. Here's a little about what other exciting things we have been doing:
LITERACY
In Literacy, students created their final information report, they chose an animal and created a poster with a heading, labelled diagram and at least one fact. They did such a great job - check them out below.
We have continued to practise dictation of sentences and of words, this helps the students to think about the sounds that they are hearing and how to write those sounds.
NUMERACY
In Numeracy, students have been practising their subitising skills (identifying the number of a collection of items based on the way they are organised). We also learnt about where money comes from - the Royal Mint - they were surprised to hear it didn't come from piggy banks!
INQUIRY
Throughout the term we have been exploring living things - we have been growing our very own pea plants. Students have been using their scientific skills to observe the plant, draw what they see and reflect on how it is growing.
Thanks for a fantastic term, we hope you have a wonderful holidays and are really looking forward to Term 4!
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact your child's teacher.

GRADE 1/2
It is crazy to believe that Term 3 is almost over and the school holidays are almost upon us. The students in 1/2 have worked incredibly hard this term and should be very proud of their efforts. The Junior School Swimming Program has been hugely successful and it has been wonderful to observe students becoming more confident and capable in the water, as well as more independent with dressing themselves.
LITERACY
This fortnight the 1/2 students have been learning to distinguish between fact and opinion. We have also had a focus on poetry, with students writing acrostic and colour poems.
NUMERACY
In Numeracy, students have had the opportunity to consolidate their knowledge of the four processes (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) through a variety of games, such as Addition Bingo, Knockout and Times it Together.
Just a reminder that Term 3 concludes on Friday 15th September at 2:30pm. There will be an assembly in the gym before dismissal at 2:00pm.
Thank you for all of your support this term. We wish you a relaxing and enjoyable holiday break and look forward to a productive Term 4.

SPECIALIST IN THE SPOTLIGHT - PERFORMING ARTS
What a fabulous term we've had with students across the school engaging in Drama learning, drawing on their creativity, engaging with puppets, playing improv games and creating plays.
A highlight was our Book Week Drama immersion experience. The Performing Arts room was transformed into a bustling market place, themed to the book 'Market Day' by Carrie Gallasch (complete with bunting and fairy lights!). There were a variety of different types of stalls set up with props and costumes, and students could engage in any and all roles they liked as customers, shopkeepers and even buskers. In the story, the girl is given a coin to spend when visiting the market with her family. She turns down many suggestions, deciding to give her coin to the busker as his banjo playing and the atmosphere of dancing with her family brought her so much joy. This led to rich discussions about the value of experiences over possessions, how music can impact our feelings and how being an artist is an important role in our community.
This week students in Grades 3 - 6 visited Melbourne Arts Centre to see Circa's Carnival of the Animals. They loved the many and varied acrobatic performances and were able to see how experienced performers use music, movement and projections to create a vast number of characters with minimal costumes and props.
Last week our State School Spectacular mass dance team performed in two sold our shows at John Cain Arena. They've been working so hard since Feburary to learn and polish their dances and had an incredible time performing in such a large scale event. Their behaviour was brilliant, with teachers from other schools and members of the Spectacular staff commenting to me what friendly, engaged and positive students we have. Well done team! We hope everyone enjoys their final performance showcase and a video about their experience at this Friday's assembly. Thank you to Tracy Wright, Lara James and the families of these students for their support throughout this experience.
Our NoiseCraft instrumental program continues with lessons offered in guitar, keyboard and drums during the school day each Friday. Due to some movement of students there is a vacancy or two so please contact them directly if your child would like to be involved. If not this term, it might be something to consider for the new year. Details are below.
As always, if you have any questions about the Performing Arts program at Wattle View PS, please contact me.
