Introduction: Collect sketchbooks, teacher does roll. 

Demonstration: 

How to capture a smooth  tonal transition; black, dark grey, light grey and white

• How to capture a smooth  tonal transition between two or three coloured pencils

• How to hold a pencil to capture smooth tonal transition

Independent task: 

• Step 1- Experiment with the  tonal exercises illustrated above; using a HB, 2B, 4B & 6B pencil; blend the four together

• Step 2- Experiment with showing a smooth transition between 2 or 3 coloured pencils

• Step 3- Annotate your page----

• A heading, 

• Explain what tone is, 

• Use dot points to describe what was successful or areas of improvement with your tonal exploration

Clean up: Clean up tables and floor and sort colour pencils.

• How to complete a timed study. Demonstrate how to SKETCH a still life in 1 minute or 30 seconds

• Capturing the shape and details of what you are drawing

Independent task: 

• Our aim is to learn how to sketch fruit. To learn how to capture 3D form  and the correct shape of the fruit being drawn.

• We will be producing a range of timed sketches focusing on line, shape, 3D form and tone

Media being explored:

• grey lead pencil

• fineliner

• water colour pencil

Clean up: Clean up tables and floor and sort colour pencils.
