This unit explores how artists develop and communicate ideas through painting, drawing, and printmaking, with a focus on visual elements, techniques, and creative decision-making.
A visual diary is your art book.
It is where you record your ideas, drawings, designs and thinking in Visual Arts.
In this unit you will be assessed on the entire creative process which includes your visual diary. This is because your visual diary shows how your artwork develops, and not just the final piece.
Your visual diary should:
Be used every lesson
Show effort, not perfection
Include sketches, experiments and mistakes - your mistakes matter!
Have annotations (writing) with your drawings (titles, labels, short explanations) - familiarise yourself with the Annotations poster in the room with handy hints and tips
Show your thinking and planning, not just finished work
Your sketchbook is an assessment tool that makes up around 50% of your final assessment grade in your CAT tasks.
If you have one, it's a sure fire way to make sure that all of your assessment documentation is in one place.
Students who use a sketchbook typically score much higher in the final CAT tasks than those who don't.
In Your Visual diary:
Draw neatly but freely
Use pencil unless told otherwise
No ripped pages and no blank sections
Keep it tidy, remember this forms part of your overall assessment
A visual diary is where I plan, draw and think about my art.
It shows my ideas and learning, not just my best work.
In addition to your visual diary, you will also need to bring your device to every class. We use online image references and research frequently and also our Google Classroom.
