Over the next few lessons you will be creating a set of sewing samples to use as reference for creating your final design. Once you have completed this and your teacher has signed it off, you can start on your final design.

Fabric Samples Checklist

Review your SAMPLE BOOKLET:

Watch your teacher demonstrate the sewing methods and take notes of the methods, tools and equipment used for each method in your Sample Booklet
Create your own sample of each of the following methods using your notes from the demonstrations
Staple your sample into your Sample Booklet
Ask your teacher to sign off your checklist once you have completed this satisfactorily.

Paper Stitching Sample

Watch the teacher demonstration
Check to ensure your machine is NOT threaded
Complete youre Sample
- Sew each of the lines and shapes
- Sew carefully and slowly. Don't speed
Staple this into your Sample Booklet.
Ask your teacher to sign off your checklist once you have completed this satisfactorily.

Machine Threading Demontration

Watch the teacher demonstration and take notes about

- How to thread the top thread
- How to wind and thread a bobbin
- How to check the thread tension

2. Machine Threading Checklist

Make a Checklist in your Sample Booklet of how to thread a sewing machine, including the above to use for your future reference
- Remember to include safety instructions such as turning off the machine before threading and after use.

3. Machine Stitching Sample

Watch the teacher demonstration and take notes in your Sample Booklet about:
- The equipment & tools required, and
- The methods used.
Create your own sample based on the notes
- Sew carefully and slowly. Don't speed
- Needle down before presserfoot
- Lift the foot to turn corners
- Always turn the machine off after sewing

4. Open/Closed Seam Samples

Watch the teacher demonstration and take notes in your Sample Booklet about:
- The equipment & tools required, and
- The methods used
Create your own sample using the notes
- Remember to iron open/close your seam.
- Remember to turn off the iron after use.

Ask your teacher to sign off your checklist once you have completed this satisfactorily.

5. Fancy Machine Stitch Sample

Watch the teacher demonstration and take notes in your Sample Booklet about:
- The equipment & tools required, and
- The methods used
Create your own sample using the notes.
- Select an emboridery stitch
- Always put the needle down before starting
- Do not pull the fabric, simply guide it and let the machine work its magic

6. Felt Shape Sample

Watch the teacher demonstrate the use of the Go Cutter and take notes in your Sample Booklet about:
- The equipment & tools required, and
- The methods used
Create your own sample using the notes.
- Be careful with sharpe blades
- Select your pice carefully to avoid wasting fabric.
