Research can be approached in a series of different ways depending on your design brief and the problem you are trying to solve. Although the limitations of your Mechanical Toy project are quite specific, there is still a lot of research requried to understand how the mechanisms work and what movements they are capable of making. Finding solutions to these problems may involve referring to the notes you made whilst your teacher demonstrated the steps, undergoing more research online or perhaps you will ask the peers around you how they solved the problem you are facing.  Another valuable resource is researching the many different ways other designers have approached similar designs. Seeing the scope of mechanical toys that others make, will likely provide you with a better insight of how the mechanics work and what movements they are capable of making. It may also inspire and motivate you along the way. It’s truly incredible how humans have used simple machines to build the world around us and that is why we are starting this journey with a mechanical toy.
