Tools required - Rule, Try Square, Sharp pencil
Step 1: Using a rule measure from end of timber and with a sharp pencil place a mark at 200mm, 5mm, 200mm, 5mm, 200mm, 5mm, 200mm, 5mm, 130mm, 5mm, 130mm, 5mm, and 115mm.
Step 2: Use the try square, hold stock against timber. Place your pencil on the first mark, slide the try square up to it and draw a line.
Tools required: Tenon saw and bench hook.
Step 1: Place bench hook in vice
Step 2: Holding timber against fence of bench hook.
Step 3: Place blade of tenon saw place in centre of 5mm gap, tilt saw forward and cut on push stroke.
Note: Try to use full length of blade of when cutting
Step 1: Use the fence on the disk sander to support and hold the timber square.
Step 2: Sand up to your pencil line. Do not sand the line off.
Step 3: Check both sets of sides and ends are equal in length and square across end.
Tools required - Rule, Try Square, Sharp pencil, Tenon saw and bench hook.
Step 1: Measure the pitch of your roof on the piece of timber labelled “front” by marking 70mm across the top and 60mm from the top on each side. Refer to the diagram below.
Step 2: Using a try square, connect the markings to make a straight pitch on the roof.
Step 3: Draw a cutting line using the try square.
Step 4: Place bench hook in vice, holding the timber on the bench hook with a clamp so it doesn’t move around.
Step 5: Place blade of tenon saw place in centre of 5mm gap (cutting gap), tilt saw forward and cut on push stroke.
Step 6: Repeat this process on your back piece.
Tools required: Disk sander and try square.
Step 1: Place your timber at the angle of the roof markings.
Step 2: Sand up to your pencil line. Do not sand the line off.
Tools required: Drill press.
Step 1: Place your front piece into the jig on the drill press.
Step 2: Mark the following on your front piece, 100mm from the pitch of the roof and 70mm from the side. Join these points to make a cross section.
Step 3: Using the 50mm forsner bit, drill a hole through your timber at the marking.
Tools required: Drill press.
Step 1: Measure and mark the placing of your perch, 70mm from the side and 50mm from the base of your front piece.
Step 2: Using the drill press and an 8mm drill piece, drill a 6mm hole into your timber.
Step 3: Place your piece of dowl into the hole with glue.
Step 4: Allow the glue to dry.
