To evaluate is to make a judgement based on criteria. This means that you will have to decide if your lantern achieves the criteria for success that were considered right at the beginning of the term. It is important when you are writing your evaluation to pretend that you are writing it for your boss or supervisor and have two main questions in mind:
What did I do well?
What could I improve upon or would do better in the future?
Tips on how to evaluate your lantern project
Break it down into different stages/components
Give specific details - for example: “I attached my side panels to my top and base pieces before I removed all of my pencil marks. This made it difficult to remove them later. I could improve this project in the future by ensuring that all pencil marks are removed before moving on to the next step.”
Use images - take photos and use them to back up your claims
To assist you, a template is available for you to evaluate your lantern project, before you start, spend 10 minutes or so reading carefully through the template and the example below.
When you get up to the OVERALL EVALUATION section, remember to evaluate your project in relation to the original criteria for success - did you succeed? If not - what would you change so that you will succeed in the future?
You have been given an EXAMPLE evaluation below - read through it carefully and ensure yours has a similar level of detail.
