An astounding 14 students have been nominated at NHSPA for exemplary HSC Music works to be considered for Encore 2023 at the Sydney Opera House 2024. This represents not only an exceptional standard of performance and composition but also collaboration, practice, ensemble and musicality.

Congratulations to Ben Clarke, Charles Codsi, Luca Crome, Mackenzie Cullen, Jude Cusbert, Frankie Foster, Emily Harris, Emma Lang, Sienna Langenheim, Freya McGrath, Finn Moore, Hugo Schmidt. Congratulations also to ensemble and accompanists of these students.
An astounding 2 nominations have been received for Music 2 Composition, which is difficult to attain and indicative of highly sophisticated work. Congratulations to Finn Moore and Bella Wong.
Thank you to the Music performers at Year 12 Graduation who added a sense of occasion and an uplifting celebratory atmosphere for finishing Year 12 students. Jeff Reiss, Charlie Love and WOMP provided an energetic percussive procession, and Grad Band performed three songs about the theme of the future full of promise.
Thank you to Jeff Reiss and student leader Charlie Love for a year of fun, inclusive and high energy musicianship for WOMP.
Our annual Spring Prom was held on 19 September in Term 3, and was a convivial picnic affair with rugs and cushions, a festive mood and wonderful music. Our HSC student programs were especially featured, and it was a fitting farewell to a strong and collaborative cohort.
Congratulations to Year 12 solo performers: Ben Clarke, Maya Crisafulli, Finn Moore, Fergus Harley-Macdonald, Emma Lang, Freya McGrath, Amani Sabri, Hugo Schmidt.
Congratulations to our performing ensembles: Symphony Orchestra, Senior Strings, all Choirs, Senior Littlefield Guitars, Zangari Guitars, Junior Jazz Ensemble and Tango Ensemble.
Our major performing events of Term 4 are our twin concerts of Animato and Con Brio. These concerts represent the culmination of a year's learning, pedagogy and ensemble. Absolutely standout repertoire and conduct were a feature of these professional performances, and the quality of musicianship was outstanding and difficult to equal.
Louise Horwood and the Junior Jazz Ensemble were invited to perform a set at the Stanmore Music Festival's Corner Gallery on Saturday 18 November. Congratulations to Junior Jazz on a professional and entertaining gig!
"The audiences were very supportive at Stanmore Music Festival. We saw some people dancing at the side and some locals came to the students after their performance and talked to them. My child met a local player and he gave a big encouragement to keep up with his practice. An elderly lady also spoke to me after the performance. She was very grateful for the jazz music brought to her neighbourhood."
The Combined Choirs (Years 7-12) and the Symphony Orchestra presented excerpts from the choral masterwork, Requiem in D minor by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Tarimi Nulay (Long Time Living Here, Gadigal), by Yorta Yorta woman, soprano and educator Deborah Cheetham-Fraillon and Matthew Doyle, at NHSPA's Gala Showcase Concert on Friday 1 December 2023.
Congratulations to our outstanding First Nations musicians Freya Mossman, Aurielle Smith and Mila Smith, who took solo vocal roles in Gadigal language in Tarimi Nulay and also delivered an inspiring and meaningful Acknowledgement of Country that spoke to truth telling and the meaning of Country today.
