Busby West Public School is situated in Green Valley in south-west Sydney on the land of the Dharug nation.
Tasked with using found objects such as recycled materials, leaves and sticks, students from Busby West Public School used their creativity and interests to create a diverse range of artworks.
Eliemar created a butterfly from recycled material for his STEM project.
Naya, Osman, Jammie-Lee and Riley created butterfly wings out of recycled materials that they found at home like cardboard, paper, paint, pencils, old stickers and foam.
Students were also asked to use leaves and other outdoor elements to create various artworks.
For NAIDOC Week, Osman and Riley also created bush necklaces.
Note: NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee.
In response to Shaun Tan's book 'The Red Tree', students were asked to create artworks using leaves.
Eliemar chose multiple materials such as paint, glue and paper, creating several artworks that explored the intricate details of leaves.
Jammie-Lee collected leaves with her mum to create a portrait of her teacher.
Osman used paint, coloured pencils and markers, to create a vibrant backdrop for his leafy artwork.
Osman, Jesse and Riley recreated a scene from the Aboriginal Dreamtime story 'When the Snake Bites the Sun' using objects they found outside.
Riley, Osman, Logan and Naya also made a telescope after reading 'The Shark in the Park'.
