Supernova sky #CAPAexplosion

Paint a supernova sky

Are you ready to shine bright and make your mark?

Kye from Burraneer Bay Public School demonstrates how he created a supernova sky. You can follow his example or create your own version!

It is a great fun to do this outside. Make sure you have old clothes (or a paint shirt) and use a surface that is easy to clean or put some protection down (such as newspaper or plastic).

Be sure to hang your artwork in your front window, on your front door or in the front yard. You might also choose to hang your artworks on the school gate or in a local store window.

Together let's create a galaxy across NSW!

Take a walk around your neighbourhood and see how many Supernova art works you can spy!

Step 1 - paint

  • Paint your entire paper blue. (if you only have 1 blue colour add a little white to make it lighter).

  • Using the cotton wool, dab lightly on the paper with white paint to create clouds somewhere on the top half of your paper/canvas.

  • Use darker paint (you could add a tiny bit of black to the blue or perhaps create purple by mixing some blue and red together)

  • Dab with cotton wool to create some darker sky around your cloud.

  • Add some mountains, trees, your house or perhaps a city scape. In his example Kye created mountains and a lake reflection.

  • You can make a dark red paint by adding a little black to red.

  • To create the stars, add a small amount of white paint onto the toothbrush bristles. Flick the toothbrush bristles gently over your painting where you want the stars.

  • Be warned this can get messy!

  • You might like to sprinkle some glitter to make your stars shine!

  • Share with your teacher and hang in your window for all your neighbours to see!

  • We can't wait to see what you create!
