Galaxy paper star
Are you ready to shine bright and make your mark?
Follow these simple steps to create your own supernova star!
Be sure to hang your artwork in your front window, on your front door or in the front yard. You might also choose to hang your artworks on the school gate or in a local store window.
Together let's create a galaxy across NSW!
Take a walk around your neighbourhood and see how many Supernova art works you can spy!
Supernova by Jordy, Ulladulla High School
What you will need:
square piece of paper (can be recycled)
scissors
holepunch (optional)
Using the following instructions to create your star:
Step 1 - folding
Fold your paper in half, lining up 2 edges. You have folded the paper into a rectangle.
Fold paper in half again, lining up the 2 short edges. You now have a square.
Fold the paper in half diagonally, lining up the edge with 1 fold and 2 folds. You now have a right-angled triangle.
Step 2 - cut and punch
Make 2 cuts as shown below to trim your folded paper into a rhombus.
Using a hole punch, punch holes randomly over the surface. If you do not have a hole punch, you can cut little notches along the folded edges for a similar effect.
Unfold your paper to reveal an 8 pointed star.
Shine a light through your paper star and observe how the shadows make a galaxy across your walls.
You could use a torch or a small lamp.
You might also like to paint the paper using watercolours or shade with pencils or textas in blues, purples and black to create a galaxy design before cutting out the star.
Hang in a window for all to see!
