Exclusions: Products developed cannot be used as a major design project in Design and Technology or a body of work in Visual Arts
Course Description:
Designed images and objects can communicate ideas about ourselves and our world. They use visual conventions to define and build social identity. They have utilitarian functions and may have aesthetic and spiritual dimensions.
This Visual Design course encourages students to explore the practices of graphic, wearable, product and inter/exterior designers in contemporary society and promotes imaginative and innovative approaches to design within the context of the Australian environment and culture.
This course enables students to:
Understand the nature of visual design and the ways in which designed images are created, categorised, interpreted, valued and used in our society
Develop understanding and skills required to design and make works which fulfil a range of functions and express and communicate their own ideas and feelings:
These skills may include:
Drawing, painting, computer generated, ceramics, mixed media
Understand and value the contribution which designers make to our society
Know the practices used by designers and the career options available in these fields.
Visual Design students are involved in planning, application and distribution of ideas and promotion.
School projects may include:
Event advertising
Promotion development
Poster artwork
Set or stage design
Signage
Animation, comic
Many of the projects are used and therefore students can see the full development and application of their work.
