Guest access to the school wifi has now been enabled. This will allow visiting presenters etc. to access the school wifi (especially given that mobile internet access at the school can be patchy at best).
At the moment the guest wifi has internet filtering set to kindergarten level, and the guest network is isolated from the rest of the school, so there is only internet access and no access to printers or other network devices at school. Because internet filtering is set to the kindergarten level, there WILL be web sites that will not be able to be accessed by this guest wifi. If access beyond these restrictions is required, an application for a user account should be made through the usual procedures.
The workflow to obtain temporary guest wifi access is as follows:
The visitor selects doe-guest from the list of access points on their device
Once connected to the wifi, a web page will automatically open with a form that the visitor must complete
The Sponsor (Yass High School staff member) receives an email showing the visitor's details and saying that guest wifi has been requested with a link to confirm or reject the request
Once confirmed, the visitor clicks on the log in button to gain internet access.
All requests and access are logged and the guest login is active for 12 hours.
Please let me know if you have any questions or comments about this new feature (and no, I don't know anything about the doe-iot or doe-onboard access points that have also appeared).
