Education Scotland is the Government body which provides guidance and examples of best practice in curriculum for the Broad General Education (S1-S3) and the Senior Phase (S4-S6). We are also in a period of change in Scotland, with the new Curriculum Improvement Cycle developing at pace.

Curriculum Improvement Cycle

In the BGE, pupils follow common courses for most of their learning time. This ensures a firm grounding across a breadth of subjects and allows them to engage with a full range of experiences and outcomes. They also have opportunities for personalisation and choice within this curriculum, providing pathways into senior phase success.

The senior phase curriculum remains largely driven by Qualifications Scotland (formerly the SQA), who provide a variety of courses and qualifications to suit the needs of learners. However, there are also opportunities for young people to engage in other experiences through SCQF, and our partnerships with e.g. Edinburgh College. Our most recent course choice offer can be viewed in the Rosehill Senior Phase Pathways Booklet 26-27 booklet, which is updated annually in line with course choice. 

Please note that proposed courses can only run if they are deemed viable, with sufficient demand and available staffing.

Every school in East Lothian is required to produce a curriculum rationale, which outlines the thinking behind their curriculum offer. Ours are below. However, it should be noted that we will be undertaking a full review of the BGE curriculum in 26-27, progress in which will be shared with the school community.
