‘We can see that he clearly loves going to the group. He comes back smiling and chattier than usual. He loves the different outdoor activities!! The fact that it is a small group and an adult is present makes it manageable for him. This has helped him to rebuild a bit of his confidence and he has made some friendships. It has been an absolute Godsend.’
– Quote from an East Lothian High School Parent
The programme has had a profound impact on these pupils including developing their confidence and self- esteem, their communication and social skills. Both pupils formed positive relationships with other participants in the programme and this also supported the transition to High School for our P7 last year. We have also seen an improvement in attendance, not just on a Monday but over the course of the year. The P7 who currently attends has recently experienced a significant trauma in their life, they are really struggling to attend school but are always here on a Monday for Adventure On and we are incorporating more time in their timetable for them to interact with the Google Classroom page on the days in school as they always come back having learnt new skills and are keen to share this with staff and peers. We also saw how confident they had become as a result of Adventure On when on our P7 residential – they took every activity in their stride and were able to confidently link Adventure On experiences with the activities at camp. They talks often about the friends made through attending the programme and they look forward to seeing them on a Monday.
