Bikeability Scotland is the national cycle training programme for school children, supporting the next generation of confident responsible road users. ELC Outdoor Learning Service offer free Instructor time to deliver programmes tailored to all local authority primary schools.
The on road cycle programme is delivered over several sessions/days lasting between 5-7 hours, depending on class and year group size.
Children are encouraged to bring their own bike and helmet. If a child's bike is considered unsafe, such as one working brake or loose handlebars, pool bikes and helmets are available. Where suitable, an Instructor may carry out a repair, such as adjust a brake, tighten headsets or repair a puncture, informing the child what has been carried out to make it safe to use.
