At Canberra College, we have high expectations of students in all levels of Mathematics. We expect students to come to class ready to learn and to complete extra study outside the classroom. We expect assessment work to be of a high standard; the faculty works to assist students in achieving this.
All tertiary students will be expected to have a Casio graphics calculator. This is used throughout the T courses. All students doing Accredited Maths should have a Casio scientific calculator. We encourage students to use the many online resources to support their learning and develop independent learning skills. Classrooms have interactive whiteboards that enable the use of technology to assist student learning. Students require access to a digital device to access their textbook. This works well on a Chromebook, but it can be used on other devices.
Canberra College offers a range of enrichment activities. There is the annual Maths Camp, after which a team is selected to represent the College at the ANU Mathematics Day. Students have the opportunity to enter a range of competitions, including the Australian Mathematics Competition, the NSW University Mathematics Competition, and the Australian Informatics Competition. Students also have the opportunity to apply to complete Maths units at the ANU Secondary College. Students with a strong ability in Mathematics are able to complete a double major, ensuring they are very well prepared for tertiary study involving
Canberra College runs maths tutorials on Tuesday & Thursday afternoons. This is run in the library as a drop-in centre. Students can drop in briefly or for the whole time to ask individual questions. Many students do homework in the library during this time.
The College is using Mathspace as its textbook. It is an interactive textbook. This provides students with online help and provides them and us with feedback on their progress. Mathspace works well on a Chromebook.

Note: If in doubt attempt the lower level of Maths. Students that do not undertake regular homework are in danger of gaining a D or E grade. May not be able to change levels until semester 2.
