An R Unit is a learning experience for college students. It develops knowledge, skills, and behaviours. R Units come in different lengths and carry suitable point values based on hours completed. They contribute to the Senior Secondary Certificate and appear on it. We recommend all students work towards R units in Work Exploration. Participating in college sports helps meet people and join the college community. Many universities seek students with more than academic achievement. A wide range of R units on your certificate is a great start. Units and courses vary each year and season, depending on demand and staff interests. Students receive information about Registered Units through a sign-up expo in week one, CC Connect notices, and TV screens.

College Sport offers all students access to every ACT Public College sport. Canberra College participates in one-day gala events and weekly Thursday round robin competitions against other ACT Public Colleges.
The program incorporates competitions from School Sport ACT and National Sporting Organisations. Students sign up for the college sports program at the beginning of the year, which gives them access to a variety of sports across each term. Inter-collegiate sport is held as one-day carnivals from 9 am to 3 pm and on Thursday afternoons from 2 pm to 4 pm. The sporting competitions currently involve students from all ACT government colleges and are run over four terms. Each term competition generally lasts for 6 weeks.
