China’s growing economy offers many opportunities in the job market to young Australians. Chinese speakers today play increasingly important roles worldwide. The practical orientation of this course would be particularly useful for those interested in pursuing a career in hospitality, tourism, or trade.
The course is designed for students with no previous study of Chinese. It involves studying both written and spoken Chinese, with an emphasis on conversational ability. Culture and history will also be studied.
This course is designed for students who have studied Chinese for at least two years. The four language skills of speaking, listening, reading, and writing are practised with special emphasis placed on communication.
Students will select the unit ‘The Individual’ in semester 1, and in semester 2, ‘Society and Community’.
