Ten Tips to have the best academic life at EIM
By Sacha Lévy-Morelle
). Set achievable and realistic goals for yourself. Without an objective you will simply lose interest in your classes. Once your goals are set, prepare a plan of the way you wish to achieve them.
). Understand how to prioritize your time effectively, this can be done by creating a schedule that balances academic and personal responsibility
). Keep in mind your important deadlines and prepare yourself to be able to reach them in time. These deadlines are the exam, your personal project, your IA/TOK works and even your CAS reflections
). Don’t be afraid to ask for help or stay in supervised study when you need it and don’t deny you need it. Teachers can be incredibly helpful for your academic works but this tip also applies to other aspect of your academic life
). Stay active in class, taking notes, sitting front row and asking questions can save you time when revising for a test or exam as you will have remembered more from the class
). You’ll sometimes make mistakes, like missing a deadline or having forgotten one until it’s due the next day, at this point you need to be able to keep working deep into the night to catch.
). You most likely won’t succeed every time, don’t let a bad grade shoot you down, laugh about it with your friends and move on to the next assignment to succeed that one
). You don’t need to get 7 or 8 on every task, just on those which really matter, for the less important tasks a lower grade won’t destroy your future but it might allow you to balance your academic and personal life in a more comfortable way
). Find a good working rhythm, personally I work 30 minutes and take a 5 minute break, but you can start by working 30 minutes for a 10 minute break
). Spend what little of your time you have left to do thing that really matter to you like spending time with your family or your dog or your friends, only then will you feel good about yourself, watching YouTube all day isn’t as fun as it may sound at first
). Sleep, take naps when you need them and when you don’t need them, wake up as late as possible to still get to school on time
