Objective: Students will use the Design Process (Ask, Explore, Model, Evaluate, Explain) to design, build, and test a straw rocket capable of reaching a target using a launcher. This hands-on activity emphasizes creativity, problem-solving, and iterative improvement.
Vocabulary:
Thrust: A PUSH in a direction
Aerodynamics: How an object moves through the air.
Drag: Force working against thrust!
Building Tips:
All fins should be sturdy, equally spaced, same size, and symmetrical.
Nose cone should be small and light with just enough clay so that the air does not escape the straw.
Use only a small amount of tape, it can add too much weight to the rocket and change the center of mass making launches inconsistent.
