What is it? Swank is a Streaming Platform (also known as Swank K-12 Streaming) that can be described as a user-friendly, on-demand streaming service designed specifically for K-12 educational purposes. It's like Netflix or Disney+, but tailored for schools and equipped with features that streamline the use of films in classroom instruction. All movies are G-PG13 in the Content Library. Staff should no longer be using their personal accounts to show movies in the classroom.
What's inside? We have 215 preloaded movies that are the most popular in the United States. The 215 movies that are available now are found in the LICENSED CONTENT section once you log in to Swank.
How does it work? Swank looks like Netflix. Once you find the title of the movie you want (in the Licensed Content Area) you and your staff will click the title and it brings you to a Watch or Copy Link page. Your staff can copy that link into Google Classroom or Schoology if they are assigning a topic for homework or a class project, or press play to watch it in the classroom. Additionally, there is a button named "BOOKMARKS", I would encourage exploration in this area. Example: A teacher can assign "To Kill a Mockingbird" and bookmark Minutes 31.05 to 55.34 to watch for homework and write an essay, for example. That bookmark will then be saved for future reference.
What if I don't see the Movie I want in "Licensed Content"? Our subscription includes an additional 300 titles that can be granted to our school. There is a REQUEST button that a Teacher can click on and tell why they need a specific title.
Approval Process by Curriculum Supervisors:
The curriculum supervisors and Beth have been set up as approvers of new movie requests. CS Team: If the teacher making the request is in your department, please reply all to the email request so that we ALL know that the movie has been approved or denied and Beth will handle the miscellaneous requests. We'll have to watch usage for these requests!
Once a movie is approved, it automatically goes into the Licensed Content section for this school year for everyone else to watch as well.
