The DSISD Gifted & Talented referral link will be live and open on the DSISD GT Website from October 1-November 14. During this window, parents may complete the referral form for their student to be tested for the DSISD Gifted & Talented Program. As a reminder, DSISD does not hold whole grade level GT screeners and tests by parent referral only. For more details on the DSISD GT program, please visit the DSISD GT website.
CSE's Neighborhood Garden: Our school’s fall garden is coming to life, and our students are so excited to get their hands in the soil and watch their plants grow. To make this possible, we need a little extra help! We’re currently looking for donations of garden soil to fill our garden beds. If you’re able to pick up a bag (or two!) of soil on your next trip to the store, it would be such a huge help to our garden program. Additionally, if you have any connections to local landscaping companies, nurseries, or garden centers that might be willing to donate soil, compost, or mulch, we’d love to hear about it! Every bag donated helps our students learn, grow, and enjoy the experience of caring for a living garden. Thank you for supporting our school garden and helping our kids “dig in” to hands-on learning!

Telling stories from your own life—or asking grandparents to share theirs—strengthens listening, speaking, and sequencing skills. Encourage your child to retell the story in their own words or ask questions to keep the conversation going.
Have you noticed 3rd-5th Grade students have three different categories of grades in our Skyward gradebooks? You will see a Formative category, which accounts for 30% of a 3rd-5th Grade student’s final grade, a Summative category, which accounts for 70% of a 3rd-5th Grade student’s final grade, and a Practice or PRAC, which does not have a numerical impact on a student’s grade. Summative Assessments and assignments have the greatest impact on a student’s numerical grade. They are assessments and assignments that are conducted when a student has had adequate instruction and practice to be responsible for material mastery. Summative assessments and assignments are designed around clearly defined learning targets and/or standards (TEKS). Summative assessments and assignments are not necessarily indicative of a student’s IQ in intelligence, rather, summative assessments and assignments provide information about the amount of learning or mastery of a standard that has occurred by a certain point.

OCTOBER NEWSLETTER
Our DSISD 18+ program has been hard at work preparing the stock of DSISD School Spirit Scribbler Pens — and they’re finally ready for you to purchase!
JROTC Student Led Military Club proudly partners with Toys for Tots and the Marine Corps to help raise toys and money for Austin children. We are grateful for the support of all the schools in DSISD and the many local businesses and neighborhoods who host boxes and promote this great cause.
Host locations will collect toys from Oct 1 - Nov 25 and then military club students will collect all the toys and organize them at the high school. The Marines will pick them up in the first week of December and distribute them to families in need throughout the month of December.
