Wedding Projects

The wedding project was a fun and interactive way to practice the elements of a wedding. To start we got a big stack of music that were good options to be able to play in the future at weddings. Then we learned about the different aspects of a wedding and when and what we might need to play in the future. Then we made menus to help our clients decide which music to chose. This was vey helpful because it taught us that suggestion is a very powerful tool in getting a client to pick the song you want. Then we went to start practicing and did a rehearsal in the harp room where we had to practice watching the people walking down the isle. This really helped because playing for a wedding involves not only playing but we also have to watch to make sure we know when to stop and start. Then we did a rehearsal wedding which was very fun because the theater class was very funny when they did the weddings and most of them ended in funny situations. For our final project it was a little nerve racking but it ended up going really well because the songs were able to stop and start on time. This project was really helpful in learning about the real life situation that we could be put in during a wedding.

Concerto for 2 harps and an Orchestra

Initial thoughts - I like this piece.  It sounds really light and Flowey and sounds like it could be in a Disney movie. I like how the piece builds but it still very light and flowy. I like the dynamics a lot and how it moves.

Goal with Music - I would like to be able to play both hands on most of the piece.

Mischief first impressions 7-31

Before listening to this piece I think mischief is gonna have a lot of tempo and dynamic changes. It might also have weird rhythms and make you feel excited.

First listen - It starts very light and i feel like childishly playful. I like how when the other people come into the piece how it sounds. I like how it kind of gets a little darker in the sense of that maybe the mischief is being committed. It was a lot more calm and childish than I thought it would be.

Seeing the music  - lots of tenuto's and syncopation (im scared, I got harp one )

Brandee Younger YouTube Journal

I really enjoyed her rendition of lift every voice and sing, I enjoyed how she did a lot of rolled chords and arpeggios. The second song was so good it was kind of jazzy and the vocalist was so good. I really liked how the bass, drums and harp worked together to make a really unique sound. The song was really relaxing and had a nice tempo and and a cool groove that made you want to sway along with the song. Brandee did a lot of like scales or arpeggios with the song which was very interesting. Next they played moving target which had more drums than brand new life did which was cool. I really enjoyed how the singer vocalized along with the instruments I feel like it made it very cohesive. I liked how in unrest it really felt like you were in unrest, she stared lower on the strings which gave it a sound that made me feel the tension she felt. I felt lik epart of the peice was about the turmoil outside and the other part of the peice was about some internal struggles. I enjoyed the tempo I liked that it was faster for most of the piece. I also enjoyed how when the drums and bass came in it kind of made you feel antsy.
