My sophomore year of high school was one of growth, challenge, and discovery. Academically, I continued to push myself with rigorous coursework and maintained a strong GPA while taking on more demanding classes. Outside of school, I stayed deeply involved in the activities that shaped me. Playing Varsity Soccer, performing harp with the Urban Youth Harp Ensemble, competing with Atlanta Junior Roller Derby as co-captain, and acting in the spring musical Fame. I also participated in the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl, which deepened my love of reading and friendly competition. Roller derby in particular taught me that growth is not always linear — showing up, being persistent, and supporting the people around you matters more than being the best. Sophomore year also planted the seed for what would become one of the biggest decisions of my life: I had already set my sights on studying abroad, a goal that would take me all the way to Germany the following year.
