Food for thought multi class project our goal was to determine how food relates to various parts of our lives. Specifically in our literature class it focused on how IDENTITY played a role in our food. For me it was Impossible meat because I am a vegetarian. I took my food choice and combined it with my group members ingredients; Derek, Andrew, Ethan, and Fiero. We created Jammin' Jerk Pizza with impossible meat and jerk chicken. We presented that to the food to the class later. However we also had a food for thought project in art in which we hand molded clay for utensils and dinnerware. However, we actually took some of our knowledge from history class and implemented tradition styles from cultures across the world. Then our dinnerware was presented at PBL night where parents and others got a personal presentation of each of our art works.
For this project we had to research many different cultures and the Columbian exchange. The end goal of the project was to have a table setting with all the items relating to the Colombian exchange and some of the cultures we researched. Each culture has its own significant symbols and reoccurring theme. I did allot for research on the Greek culture for pottery and the native American culture for pottery and the native American symbols were important in our final table setting. My personal contributions were with the bowl and the plate. Me and another one of my groupmates worked on the bowl together and for the plate I was the one that chose its color and glazed it. Another thing in our final table setting was a spear which could be used as a knife or fork. The Columbian exchange itself heavily revolved around food, food was the thing that was changed the most because of it.
