Chemistry

Semester 1

Labs

Skittles Lab

In class we opened a packet of skittles to determine the abundance, percentage, and amount of each color  of skittle. This helped us learn about the scientific method.

Paper Airplane Lab

We made paper airplanes in class to see how weight effected the distance and speed of the paper airplanes. We practiced creating hypothesis with this lab

Projects

History of the Periodic Table project

We were givin the choice between a few social media formats to create the history of the periodic table in a creative manner. I chose the snapchat format and drew and captioned things like the creation of the modern periodic table.

Bohr Model project

We created a Bohr model of the element we picked for our element art project. My element was iron, as you can see, the protons, neutrons, and electrons are clearly shown in the model.

Element art project

We had the choice to pick any element from the periodic table to represent in drawing for a periodic table of all the students handmade drawings. We had some time in class to create rough drafts of our final project. After a few rough drafts I decided I wanted to do a knight clad in Iron armor to represent the history of Iron's use. I spent 5 hours creating my final project and I'm happy how it tuned out. It is made entirely from 1 pencil and the chainmail is hand drawn circles too tiny to see in just the picture. The only parts on the drawing without shading is the Information about iron and the half of the sword facing towards the light

CER

It may have changed, but not much. Efficiency does not change from culture to culture, there is only one way to do something efficiently. However in this case that may not be true, other tables were created but we use the one that allows us to predict future elements. The periodic table would most likely change from person to person based on preference. One thing that would most certainly change would be: language, symbols, and measurement. Different cultures have different ways to determines things, if it were another culture that may use another system of measurement which would be the biggest change by far.
