The purpose of the Food for Thought project was to learn how to make a sustainable and inclusive food system that not only shows cultural diversity but also raises awareness of health and social equity. In different classes the teacher related it to their subject. In Science we related the food to bonding chemicals, in world history we did a cook off from different hemispheres and , in art we made a table set with ceramics inspired by one of the countries involved in the Columbian exchange. For my group we decided to make a cup, spoon, appetizer plate. What worked for my for my group is the a painting palette. Our theme and our colors went well together.
Our team decided to create our placemats inspired by the pottery techniques found in both Native American and Ancient Greek cultures. We adopted the pinch method commonly observed in Native American pottery, while incorporating geometric designs reminiscent of Ancient Greek pottery on each piece. The ceramics from these distinct cultures symbolize their unique identities and served practical purposes in storing food both before and after the Columbian Exchange. If I had more time we would refined the clay more and not make a appetizer plate and make a real plate
