Viewing the world through a Mathematical perspective
Delhi Public School Lava Nagpur arranged a field trip on October 19, 2023, for Grade VII students to 'Chitnavis Wada.' Within the framework of the Experiential Learning Program, the teachers intertwined architectural elements with mathematical concepts, such as geometry, symmetry, ratios, proportions, and measurements, which were applied in the construction of the historic Chitnavis Wada building. This exposure proved very fruitful and a learning expedition for the students.
The students were accompanied by Ms. Rifat Khan, Ms. Pallavi Landge, and Ms. Nutan Rai.
A Walk through the Heritage of Chitnavis Wada
The Wada was built by Rakhmaji Ganesh Randive, the Chitnavis (Chief Documentation Officer) of the Bhosle kings of Nagpur.
It is one of the few Wadas that has managed to preserve the grandeur and the old-world charm of the elite houses.
As we entered we were astonished to see the first courtyard which was surrounded by colourful paintings and had soothing mud flooring.
The walls had paintings depicting the life of Krishna which indicated that it must be the family deity. There were scenes from epics like Mahabharata and lithographs of Raja Ravi Varma’s paintings were also there.
The next chowk had a fountain in the middle. It also had a corridor running all around with mud flooring. The students sat around the fountain to admire this simpler yet charming part of the Wada.
The Wada has a secret tunnel that connects the main palace of the Bhonsle Kings to Chitnvis Wada
The Wada is multi-storied and the students toured all the floors immersing themselves in the rich heritage of the mansion as well as knowing the history of our city - Nagpur.
From the rooftop of the Wada, we could see the inner courtyards and the Murlidhar temple we also got a skyline view of the city.
The students were mesmerized by the beauty of the architecture that was evident in every nook and corner of this amazing building. The visit was an enriching experience for the students.
