APPROACH
Theoretical
This course presents an excursus into the history of cinema starting from its origins to the contemporary production, with reference to TV series and their relation to cinema. Throughout the course, the understanding of cinema language and film production processes will be also carefully analysed.
The programme consists of one single module, which grants 6 credits.
Successful students will be able to:
Contextualise the main films, genres and authors in the history of cinema
Analyse cinematographic works with a critical approach, attention to contents and language, production and communication specificities
History of cinema through the analysis of genres (such as German expressionism, Italian neorealism, French nouvelle vague, etc.), of the authors (among which Chaplin, Truffaut, Hitchcock, Kubrick, etc.) and of stage effects
Cinematographic language and film production process
Definition of camera take, sequence, scene, tracking shot
Film opening credits
The programme focuses on theoretical courses.
Students will take part in the following activities, which may vary depending on the different topics covered:
Classroom lectures
Debates, presentations, peer assessment
Use of tutorials, videos or other media tools
Exercises and revisions
Individual study and research
Assessment tools may include:
Mid-term written exam: closed questions on the themes presented in class
Written exam
Optional oral exam
