APPROACH
Theoretical
With the division of the Design courses in two parts (History of design 1 and 2), the second course focuses on the evolution of design from the Second World War onwards.
Decade after decade, the course analyses the main points of the debate, the guidelines of project themes, as well as the most significant work of each author and school in a comparison between Italy and the international scope, with particular attention to the present times and to the consequences of the digital revolution.
The programme consists of one single module, which grants 6 CFA credits.
Successful students will be able to:
Based on the experience gained over the first year, improve their critical and analytical skills
Improve their command of the historical research tools and understand the basic methodology of analysis of the contemporary context
Evolutional profile of the history of design, from 1945 onwards
Analysis of the theoretical debate, with a focus on the most criticizing and innovative voices concerning, among others, the technical and formal aspects of the subject
Focus on the protagonists, schools and trends that, from the mid-20th century on, have been contributing to re-define the disciplinary status of design
The programme focuses on theoretical courses.
Students will take part in the following activities, which may vary depending on the different topics covered:
Classroom lectures
Debates, presentations, peer assessment
Use of tutorials, videos or other media tools
Exercises and revisions
Individual study and research
Assessment tools may include:
Written exams
Submission of exercises, projects or research works
Oral exams
