APPROACH
Theoretical/project based
This programme offers in-depth study of the main design-related subjects: Product design and Interior design.
Product design 2: innovation is possible upon understanding all aspects of the complex product system: concept, form, function and communication. The Product Design module approaches this complex scenario starting from the planning stage, with the support of practical workshops.
Interior design 2: this module deals with the human space issue. The learning purpose of this course is to reach full awareness and command both of individual and group design projects, through the understanding of the procedures as well as of the tools used for analysis, description and communication of the project itself.
The expected outcomes are the completion of interior design projects and the improvement of drawing techniques as well as the ability to create model-based representations of space.
The programme grants 12 credits, divided as follows:
PRODUCT DESIGN 2: 6 CFA
INTERIOR DESIGN 2: 6 CFA
Successful students will be able to:
PRODUCT DESIGN 2:
Use the main tools and methods for projects of product development
Manage comprehensive design processes, from the initial brief to research, project development, execution drawings and model making
Suggest formal solutions, both technical and structural, in consideration of function and manufacturing processes
The Industrial Design scope
INTERIOR DESIGN 2:
Relate to residential, domestic and/or hybrid spaces in the local and global context of the contemporary world
Reach full awareness and command both of individual and group design projects, thanks to the understanding of the procedures as well as of the tools used for analysis, description and communication of the project itself
Use different tools for the development of interior design projects, as well as drawing and space representation techniques on paper, video and 1:20 models
PRODUCT DESIGN 2:
Briefs and how to interpret them
Research
Concept development
Development of a project, choice of materials, processes and technologies
Small scale model-making to highlight the project main features
Project representation in 3D and/or hand drawing, technical drawing
Final model
INTERIOR DESIGN 2:
Measuring and mapping (Autocad, Illustrator, Sketchup)
Axonometric and perspective (repetition) drawing: case studies
Reading a project brief
Developing Interior Design projects
Study models
Scale drawing in architecture and 3D modelling
This is a theoretical/project based course.
Students will take part in the following activities, which may vary depending on the development of different projects:
Classroom lectures
Use of tutorials, videos or other media tools
Exercises and revisions
Workshops
Individual or group projects
Individual or group study and research
Assessment tools may include:
Oral exams
Completion of comprehensive projects
Submission of exercises, projects or research works
Further details about the exams will be provided by the professors.
The final grade will result from the weighted average of the programme modules.
