"The Root of Sacred Learning" is a collections of ancient primers, aiming to cultivate children's cultural literacy through classical recitation. The book is divided into seven volumes. The first volume includes Words for Children, A continuation of Words for Children, the *Standards for Being a Good Student and Child* or Di Zi Gui, the *Three Character Classic*, the *Hundred Family Surnames*, and the *Thousand Character Classic*. For thousands of years, Chinese ancestors, through their life experiences, observed what kind of education children should receive—early/foundational education—and compiled these into teaching materials. Their aim was to help students become sages and virtuous individuals, truly embodying the ideals described by Zhang Zai, a great scholar of the Northern Song Dynasty: "To establish a heart for Heaven and Earth, to establish a destiny for the people, to continue the lost learning of the past sages, and to usher in an era of peace for all generations." This is foundational education; the "root of roots" signifies deep-rooted education, like a tree that can only grow into a great tree with strong roots.
