About us

Repay the kindness we received. This is the source of strength behind the formation of ZHCSS and its activities.

About Us

ZHCSS is a non-profit organization whereby our objectives are to promote Chinese culture, so as to benefit the general public, foster peace and harmony among races and religions.

Our sources of funding are from our members as well as benevolent contributions of members of the public. These fundings enable ZHCSS to run classes, organize talks, forums, conferences, workshops and activities that are in line with its mission.

Mission

To promote practical and appropriate lessons in virtue cultivation and in traditional cultural talents and skills, to carry out sound education practice so as to make a contribution to harmonize family and neighbourhood relationships, to promote a moral atmosphere of propriety and righteousness in the country, and to cooperate with the government to achieve the goal of building a model society of harmony and civilization.

Origin

Ancient teachings of the Chinese classic texts and elementary texts,  inculcate traditional cultural values to create and promote a happy and healthy family life. Such values are timeless and inclusive, and have many in common to the different cultures and religions of other races.

Promotion of traditional Chinese culture is our uppermost priority as it will enhance social stability and harmony, furthermore such values harmonize and synchronize with other culture and beliefs. In this pretext, the ZHCSS was born to serve the needs of our time and our society.

Unfortunately, many people are not exposed to the Chinese classic texts, not even "Di Zi Gui", which was "the top elementary text for self-cultivation". Those who were introduced, were astounded by the benefits. Nevertheless, some fear that this teaching will not pass on to the next generation. With the encouragement and enthusiam of many members of the public, ZHCSS aims to benefit the community, by disseminating the teachings through various channels.

Badge

The design of our logo, features prominently the Chinese word "人", a pair of "人" forms the word "仁" (benevolence or humaneness), which denotes the Chinese culture of filial piety rooted in "仁" (the core value of Confucius's moral system). The four strokes of "仁" each denotes "诚" (Sincerity), "敬" (Respect), "谦" (Humility) and "和” (Peace), which are also integral to Chinese value system, and are part of ZHCSS's motto.

Motto

敦伦尽份 诚敬谦和

Morality, Harmony, Faithfulness, Responsibility

Sincerity, Respect, Humility, Peace

敦伦尽份:Morality, Harmony, Faithfulness, Responsibility

It is about “dutifully fulfilling and observing the societal relationships”, characterized by these four words. It describes the roles played by individuals in the society.  These relationships refer to those between parent and child, siblings, husband and wife, leader and subordinates, and friends.

Viewing it at a micro level, if one is filial to his parents and respectful of the elders, he is known as one who fulfils and observes these societal relationships.  At a macro level, the ability to raise and educate one’s children into highly esteemed and respected children of the society is the real fulfillment.

To fulfil is to completely play out one’s expected roles.  These expected roles are observed in the following relationships:

i. parental love for the children, and the filial piety shown by the latter towards the former;

ii. elder sibling’s love for the younger ones, and the respect shown by the younger siblings for the former;

iii. husband’s care and concern for the wife, and the latter’s gentleness and respect for the former;

iv. a leader’s benevolence and care for the subordinates, and the latter’s loyalty to the leader;

v. the honesty and trust between friends.

诚敬谦和:Sincerity, Respect, Humility and Harmony

If these four words can be learnt by everyone, we shall be able to tolerate everyone, living in equality and harmony. As such, the society shall be in order and the world shall be in peace.

A sincere heart begins from the filial piety towards parents and respect shown for elder siblings. As the old saying goes, “one’s behaviour is a result of one’s nurturing when young”. Therefore, if one cultivates a good habit of showing respect for the elders at home, when one steps into the society, one shall naturally be respectful of all elders – viewing all fathers and mothers as one’s biological parents, and all elder siblings as one’s biological siblings.

A heart filled with humility and harmony begins from the subduing of one’s arrogance. If one manages to keep one’s feet on the ground while gaining in knowledge, one will learn more into one’s shortcomings. More to that, one will continue to learn more into the strengths of the others, treat the others humbly and live harmoniously with everyone.
