Every year, parents participate and complete the School Experience Survey The information gathered from the survey helps guide the completion of the school's Single Plan for Student Achievement (submitted and approved by the district yearly).
The school convenes an Annual Title 1 meeting during semester 1. Through this meeting, parents of Title I students were informed about the Title I requirements and their rights to be involved in the Title I program by participating in all the committees and councils at the school and attending parent workshops.
The Title I School-Level Parent and Family Engagement Policy 2021-2022 contains all information on how South Gate Middle School has and will continue to increase Parent Involvement in the Title I program, build capacity for involvement, and share responsibilities for high academic student achievement. All communications and presentations are given in both English and Spanish (96% Hispanic community) including the parent section of our school website. All committees, SSC, SDMC, ELAC, and WASC include parent and student community members.
South Gate Middle School encourages and promotes diversity and inclusion in any committee, program, event, and clubs/groups created including our Viking Student Teach Team. Our Tech Team consists of an equal amount of female/male members with each grade level represented as well. All students are encouraged to apply to our Team to increase our stakeholder's instructional technology capacity.
How are students given voice and choice to demonstrate how they leverage technology to learn?
Teachers have realized that technology and the power of digital devices, apps, and tools can increase engagement, encourage collaboration, spark innovation, and enhance student learning. As part of the focus for our Local District East, teachers will continue receiving professional development to leverage technology to increase student choice and voice in the classroom,
South Gate Middle School has provided and connected all stakeholders with a multitude of digital tools to unleash student creativity while promoting an equitable, accessible, and inclusive learning environment. Students continue to create media projects that both increase student engagement and demonstrate mastery of academic standards.
